Since our beginning in 1995, Parkwood Homes has been very selective about the communities in which we build. From our beginnings in The Kentlands, Maryland, it has been important to us not just to build beautiful homes but to build beautiful neighborhoods for families.

In our 25-plus years, we have only chosen to build in a handful of communities. Parkwood always seeks to build homes in world-class master-planned communities focused on the best of traditional neighborhood design. Kentlands in Maryland, Stapleton/Central Park in Denver, and Daybreak in Utah have all been recognized as the best master-planned communities in America.

Before committing to purchase lots in a new development, we scrutinize the community’s land plan, its commitment to parks, trails, and amenities, and perhaps most importantly we get to know the land developer very well to ensure that they align with our values. In Colorado, we feel honored to have been one of the only start-to-finish homebuilders in Central Park for its two-plus decades. As we sell and build the last of our homes there, we believe we have found another great community and developer to partner with, and are turning our focus to our next great Colorado project, Painted Prairie in Aurora, Colorado.

The Community

Painted Prairie is dedicated to connecting Colorado’s best local homebuilders, joyful parks and amenities, and an innovative new town center to create one of Denver's most exciting and welcoming new communities. Located between downtown Denver, the airport, and Anschutz-Fitzsimons Medical Campus, the Prairie is ideally situated to provide easy access to jobs, the airport, and downtown. But you won't have to go far to find most of what you need.

Residents of Painted Prairie have access to a collection of outdoor spaces unlike anything in the area. High Prairie Park, a 22-acre green space at the heart of the community, is ready for any weekend plans you might have, from its four whimsical playgrounds from Beanstalk Builders to its picnic and grilling stations with Front Range views. You can also enjoy a stroll or watch the sun set over the Rockies on Sunset Ridge Promenade. There are miles of running and biking paths for anyone looking to get out and explore. If you're looking for a more intimate setting, six smaller pocket parks throughout the community guarantee that you'll never be far from beautiful greenery and fresh air. All of that and more are in the works, with future trail and park plans coming soon.

One of the things we are most excited about in Painted Prairie is the upcoming Town Center. This 55-acre space is poised to provide residents with everything you want or need, just a stone's throw away. Exciting plans for this new hub include a locally-sourced international food hall and chef-driven destination restaurants, co-working spaces, health and wellness, and boutique hotels.

Painted Prairie is also committed to excellent design. They have said that "The spirit of this community is 'Welcome Home,'" and that line of thinking has informed all their planning. Many houses back directly onto shared green spaces where you and your kids can be relaxing and playing in a park that’s just a few steps from home. Homes with beautiful front porches, sidewalks, and tucked-behind garages make the streets feel like they’re built for people and bikes, not just cars, so your kids can play and you can really interact with and know your neighbors. Painted Prairie also promotes excellent architectural design, working with each carefully-chosen homebuilder to create beautiful streetscapes that make for pleasant morning or evening strolls.

Designing for the Prairie

One of our favorite things about beginning to work in a new place is the chance to design new homes that embrace the culture and needs of the community. That was no different in Painted Prairie. Led by Parkwood Architect Daniel Morales, who has designed every Parkwood home in our history, we have been hard at work behind the scenes and will soon be able to share with you the complete plans for two brand-new homes: The Chelsea and The Lexington.

Inspired by the best of traditional American architecture, these homes will be beautiful additions to the streets of Painted Prairie. The Chelsea is a classic Colonial, and The Lexington is our newest take on the Victorian Farmhouse. Both will feature the timeless detailing and thoughtful space planning Parkwood built its reputation on in Central Park, as well as cool outdoor spaces to enjoy Colorado sunshine and Front Range vistas.

We plan to begin construction this fall on a red brick Chelsea as our first model home in Painted Prairie, opening in Spring 2022. We can't wait to see you there and welcome you to the neighborhood!
