At Parkwood, one of our favorite things we get to do is check back in with our buyers after they’ve had a little time to settle into their new homes. They’ve gotten to live in the space a bit and really decorate it to showcase who their family is. We had a chance to talk with the Purvis family that just built an Asheville with us in Sterling Ranch, CO about what their process was like, and they were kind enough to let us get some beautiful pictures of their home.

The Asheville home of the Purvis family

Thank you so much for taking the time to talk with us about your amazing home. First things first, why were you looking for a new home?

We relocated to Colorado and needed to find a place that had a sense of community, with sidewalks and parks and good schools within close proximity to our work.

What was it that drew you to Sterling Ranch in particular?

We saw the Parkwood model listing online and it seemed like it was in a good area with good schools so we decided to check it out. We were doing our own searches for homes online and found the leaseback listing for the Ashville model. We were in town for a weekend and decided to stop in to take a look at the model. We loved the curb appeal and Ashville floorplan. There is nothing else like it in the Colorado market. We wanted new construction but were not satisfied with the products being offered by mega builders. Parkwood is the only semi-custom builder in Sterling Ranch. We could tell immediately the difference in elevation, layout, and upgrade options.

What drew you to our Asheville plan?

We loved the open and inviting floorplan and the huge kitchen. We wanted something spacious for our family but also for when friends and family come to visit. We found that the only comparison would be a custom home at twice our budget.

Is this your first time building a new home?

We have never built anything from the ground up. The surprises were the endless upgrade possibilities, figuring out budget, and picking every single item out! It was fun but at times, overwhelming.

What was the build process like for you? What were your favorite parts?

It was so fun for our family and seeing everything come together. It was great meeting our neighbors along the way so when we moved in, we already felt like we were part of the community. It was such an exciting experience but at times, hard trying to not get carried away. We loved the obvious things like picking out all the appliances, countertops, tile, wood flooring, etc. We always looked forward to those design meetings.

How would you describe your style? Was it important to find a home that fit your style, or did you find the right home and then use that as a launchpad for everything else?

It was SO important to find a home that fit our style. We laugh because we feel our home belongs somewhere in the South as the elevation is Low Country style! It’s very fitting because we have a modern coastal aesthetic. It’s not exactly what one might expect living in the Front Range but it worked out for us because we love that look! We wanted this home to be clean and classic with a modern twist and we achieved that from the outside in.

What are your favorite things about your new home?

There is so much to love about our home. For starters, it’s lovely to sit out on our many porches. We put a sizeable laundry room off the primary bedroom which is so convenient. We’re so happy we added the charming bedroom with dormers and the adorable en suite bath over the garage. We were thrilled that Parkwood offers smooth walls not to mention all the extra trim and wainscotting details that elevate the home. We also added European-wide plank floors throughout which are timeless and add so much character. And of course, the built-in Miele coffee maker was a selection that we did not want to miss! We like all the windows and natural light, the enormous kitchen island, and the dark contrast of the interior doors which help to break things up a bit. The integrated, panel-front refrigerator is a win too! There are so many things we love…we could go on and on.

Is there anyone at Parkwood you’d like to give a shoutout to?

Ashley was wonderful to work with, always responsive, and kept us updated with what was happening and next steps. She did a great job at facilitating all our requests and inquiries. Once things got underway, we met Brad. Brad was so genuine and always strives to follow through and make things right. We feel fortunate to have had Brad helping to get our home to the finish line and beyond.

Are there any fun projects you’re planning for your home in the future? Anything you’re working on now?

There’s still so much decorating to be done! We are patient with the process but as far as big projects, we accomplished most of that during the build process. We’re working on the interior design elements including adding more artwork, lighting, and rugs along with wall coverings. We’re getting there slowly but surely and also just enjoying the process. There’s still so much to do. It’s important to us to make sure we’re making the right decisions and not rushing.

Well, thank you so much for chatting with us. Before we finish up, is there anything else you’d like to share that you haven’t mentioned already?

We’ve reflected on the last 2 years from when we found out we were moving, coming to Colorado and finding Parkwood, and starting the plans to build this home. We still can’t believe how things just came together. It all happened during the heart of the pandemic; we moved our family 1000 miles and lived in a rental while we built this home. It wasn’t easy at times and the odds were against us but we trusted our gut and trusted Parkwood. It was the right move, it all worked out and was absolutely worth it.
